WEEK 8: THE TREE

“Then God planted a garden in Eden, in the east. He put the Man he had just made in it. God made all kinds of trees grow from the ground, trees beautiful to look at and good to eat. The Tree-of-Life was in the middle of the garden, also the Tree-of-Knowledge-of-Good-and-Evil.”

genesis 2:8

God created the Garden of Eden as a beautiful oasis for his creation to enjoy. In the garden  God made a variety of trees and plants so that Adam and Eve could have their choice of food to eat. He tells Adam and Eve that they can eat the fruit from any of the trees in the Garden of Eden, including the Tree of Life. The only tree that God asks Adam and Eve not to eat is the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, He warns them that they eat from this tree that they will die. God gives Adam and Eve this warning in order to keep them safe from harm. However, He does not force them to listen to His warning; God gives them the choice to obey Him.

God loves humans so much that he allowed us to us to make our own decisions. He will always provide instructions for us to follow, BUT God will never force us to listen to His instructions. We can choose to make good choices, but we can also choose to make bad decisions. God could have created us as people who were forced to obey His every command, but He didn’t do that. God wants us to choose Him, everyday. And, when we do make that decision to choose Him, He allows us to have beautiful, plentiful, abundant lives. When God sends Jesus to the Earth, Jesus said He came so we may have LIFE and have it to the FULL. We can have these amazing lives through the power of his Holy Spirit living inside of us - which can help guide us along the right path.
