day 21

CULTURE OF FAITH

When I found C3 NYC, I was so caught up in the city. Everything was so new and exciting and I let my relationship with God take a backseat. I allowed the city to swallow me up, became a slave to my flesh and had a void in my heart that went further than I realized. At this point I had been in the city for five months and was looking for a church to attend.

I came across C3 NYC on Instagram by watching my coworkers, Rob Ramsey’s story and it reminded me of the church that I attended back in Texas. I reached out and he gave me the information I needed to attend a service at Downtown Brooklyn the following Sunday. From then on, I knew this was home and where God wanted me to be. I attended the Clinton Hill Dinner Party that following Wednesday where I met a lot of awesome people. I didn’t realize how lonely or how badly I needed community. I knew was that this was something special and I had to grab hold of it. So I applied to be a part of the worship team a couple of weeks into attending the Downtown Brooklyn location and in my waiting, I met David Walker and joined the production team. With little experience, him and the team took me in and taught me everything I know.

I have now become a part of creating a space where people can feel comfortable and at home. From the smiles at the door, the refreshments, a chair to sit in, the pre service music, the lights on stage, the songs we sing, and the message: everything has a reason and it doesn’t just start and stop with Sunday. This summer, I have been a production intern alongside Brooke Ranson and Charmaine Samakande under the leadership of David Walker and we get to see firsthand what goes on behind the scenes of having service on Sunday. It takes a lot of preparation.

At an intern meeting, Pastor Josh reminded us that, “The vision is bigger than us and we can do more together than we can apart”. What I’ve come to understand is that there is no “little” job, every task and every person is so important to facilitate that vision.

“Their responsibility is to equip Gods people to do his work and build up the church. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God‘s son that we will be mature in the Lord measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ” Ephesians 4:11-12 (NLT)

I love that C3 NYC is a mobile church because the creative process is so cool. We start with an empty space and literally build the house of God, furthermore, it couldn’t be done without those that choose to serve on Sunday and throughout the week. Being a part of the vision that helps bring people into relationship with God is why I get up early in the morning on Sunday to help build our church and serve all day. It’s not because I have to, it’s because I get to. God has surrounded me with people that are for me and that believe in me and are always calling me higher. We have been equipped by our leaders and together we are unified. I am truly blessed and honored to serve alongside such amazing people.
